Questions & Answers

Do I need Autodesk Inventor?
Yes — ProFinder requires Autodesk Inventor 2016 or later installed on the same PC. It uses Inventor's built-in Apprentice Server (included with every Inventor installation) to read and write iProperties. If you're using Inventor, you already have everything you need.
Does ProFinder store or upload my CAD files?
Never. ProFinder only creates a local index (a JSON file) on your PC. Your CAD files never leave your computer or network. ProFinder reads your files to build the index and writes back only when you explicitly save iProperties or rename a file.
Can my whole team use one license?
One license covers one workstation. Each PC that runs ProFinder needs its own license. However, since each PC maintains its own local index of your shared CAD files (on Dropbox, SharePoint, or a network drive), team members naturally see each other's changes after a quick incremental scan (1–2 seconds).
What happens if I change computers?
Contact us at info@philiprivard.com with your transaction ID and new Machine ID. We'll transfer your license at no charge. One active workstation per license at a time.
Is this really perpetual? No subscription?
Yes — pay once, use forever. Free updates are included for 1 year. After that, ProFinder continues to work — you can optionally purchase update packages for new major versions.
How does Smart Rename work?
When you rename a file, ProFinder opens each parent assembly in Inventor, updates the reference to point to the new filename, and saves the assembly automatically — all parents at once, in one operation.
What Inventor versions are supported?
Autodesk Inventor 2016 and later. Tested on Inventor 2024 and 2026.
